How to get your goal back on track
The Secret Weapon for HR
The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.
That’s what this newsletter delivers.
I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.
Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.
Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.

Good evening, 66.1ers.
I made a promise at one point that this newsletter would get to you on Wednesday mornings.
Obviously, that’s not the case.
Coaching clients take priority, and that means these Wednesday issues will likely continue to show up later in the day.
Food for thought:
You signed up for a race.
Now what?
There’s an epidemic out there. People seem to think that if they sign themselves up for a big, ambitious race this summer, they’ll get into shape. I know people who have signed up for Ironmans, 50 milers, 100 milers, and 50k races.
And of those, I’d say close to 40% of the people I know have either missed a race entirely or expressed serious doubt that they’ll actually compete. And it’s not due to injury. It’s due to not training enough.
It raises the question…
What’s the missing ingredient?
I’ll give you a clue.
It’s not a bigger goal.
I promise you that.
It’s a more meaningful goal.
Is this 100 mile race simply a “would be cool if I did it”?
Or is it a must?
If it’s a must, why?
Are you out to see what you’re capable of?
Wanting to test your mind?
Is it part of a bigger picture goal (weight loss, etc.)?
If you don’t have time to train, why don’t you have time to train?
It’s not because you don’t actually have time.
There are plenty of people out there with young kids, elderly parents, a full-time job, and more who find time to make big goals happen.
So if you’re dropping the ball…
It’s because it’s not a priority.
And that’s ok.
But be honest with yourself.
Why are you really missing your goals?
What would need to change for you to achieve them?
Who would you need to meet?

A question for you:
Pulling a switcheroo here.
What is your #1 habit for building health?
Reply here.
I’ll share the answers in next week’s Wednesday edition.
From a reader:
Sorry, Casey.
Forgot to answer your question in last week’s Q&A.
“Are chicken wings healthy? Since they’re just cooked meat, and a bit of sauce, I like to indulge on my ‘healthier’ nights out.”
Casey: There’s nothing inherently evil about chicken wings. It’s all about what they’re cooked in and what you use for sauce. Deep fried in seed oils? You’re not doing yourself any favors. Sauce made with corn syrup and sugars? Also not ideal. For guilt-free, flavorful chicken wings, try frying in tallow and tossing in this sauce.

That’s all for this Wednesday.
See you on Saturday.
Have fun out there.
Marcus
