The secret to exercising more, having "enough" time, a 10-second fitness assessment

Good afternoon, 66.1ers.
As mentioned, we’ve moved from Substack to beehiiv. It’ll be a better newsletter. Much more to come in the way of positive change in the next couple weeks.
If anything looks funky with your subscription, please reply here and let us know.
Make sure marcus@66point1 and [email protected] are in your address book so you don’t miss our newsletters now that we’ve made the shift.
Food for thought:
Is enjoyment the key to regular exercise?
In this study from the International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity, participants exercised 77% more frequently when they were advised to self-regulate their exercise intensity.
In other words…
Rather than doing the HIIT workout your trainer has prescribed for today’s workout despite feeling under the weather and having spent the night awake with a sick child, maybe today’s a good day to do some recovery work.
And if your trainer has prescribed a light recovery day but you’re in the mood for a HIIT session, go right ahead.
We’re humans. At the end of the day, none of us is immune to our hedonic (pleasure-seeking) tendencies. We like to do what we enjoy. Better to do what you enjoy than try to enjoy something you don’t.
More to come in Saturday’s issue. If you want to master the difficult art of building an exercise routine you actually enjoy, make sure you’re subscribed to the Premium version of 66.1 before Saturday’s issue drops.
Here’s the data:
A question for you:
I’ve been thinking about this one a lot lately.
I’m working a W-2 job at the Mayo Clinic.
Writing 66.1.
Coaching private clients.
And building Freedom Fats (America’s #1 cooking fat).
The days are full.
And I’m having a blast.
Definitely more productive than I’ve ever been.
Certainly, fuller days can be had (I’m not a parent yet).
Nonetheless, these are plenty full.
I thought I was busy before.
I’m busier now.
Raises the question…
Are you really short on time, or is your life just filled with subprime opportunities?
Both are valid options.
But when it’s important, you can always make time.
What’s something you feel like you’re “too busy” for, but is 100% worth making time for?
Things like…
Working late after the family goes to bed because you’re on a mission.
Or the friends trip you go on every year because relationships are priceless.
It’s why my girlfriend and I are getting in the car after work tomorrow and driving to visit her family in Washington.
Because it matters.
Workout of the week 💪🏼
Wall walks
This one is more of a challenge than it is an exercise or workout.
Sit down on the floor, cross-legged.
Keep your hands off the ground.
In front of you, behind you, whatever.
Now stand up.
Hands never touch the ground.
If it doesn’t go, it’s time for a quick self-assessment.
What’s missing?
Balance?
Strength?
Mobility?
That’s all for this Wednesday.
See you on Saturday.
Have fun out there.
Marcus
